Where Golf Meets Fun: Lessons from My Boys’ Sports Journey
As a parent of two active boys, I’m constantly amazed at how much I learn from their growth in sports. Watching them navigate the ups and downs of competition has given me new perspectives—not just on parenting, but also on life and business.
Both Sinuo and Franklin play baseball and golf, but their personalities and challenges couldn’t be more different. Sinuo, my 13-year-old, is the steady, humble type. His strong fundamentals make him stand out among his peers, but he sometimes struggles with confidence and decisiveness in high-pressure moments. Coaches see his talent, but they don’t always recognize a championship mindset in him. When facing stronger opponents, hesitation can hold him back.
Franklin, on the other hand, is the ultimate competitor. He’s aggressive, eager to win, and never shies away from a challenge. He makes quick, decisive choices, which has earned him sportsmanship awards multiple times. But his biggest hurdles? He’s not always open to new opportunities, fearing judgment. He often needs a little push to step out of his comfort zone—though once he does, he usually thrives. And patience? Let’s just say that’s still a work in progress. Golf, in particular, tests him. If he has to wait too long for the group ahead, he rushes his shot, only to realize afterward that he should have taken his time.
Sometimes, I wish I could take their best qualities and merge them—Sinuo’s steady fundamentals with Franklin’s fearless execution. But then I realize: growth comes from their unique struggles. And in many ways, I see these same patterns in the business world.
Personally, I’ve had moments where humility kept me in the background when I should have spoken up. Other times, I’ve let comfort hold me back from taking bold action. Watching my boys navigate sports reminds me that success isn’t about having all the right traits—it’s about recognizing our strengths, tackling our weaknesses, and always striving for balance.
That’s exactly the spirit behind UniCaddie—where golf meets fun, and where we embrace both the steady fundamentals and the fearless drive to win. Whether in sports, business, or life, it’s all about learning, adapting, and enjoying the game.
So, what have your kids’ sports journeys taught you? Let’s share and grow together!
